While travelling over the weekend, I decided to go dancing — tango, of course. I searched online for local milongas and found one taking place at a nearby hotel.
As I drove up to the hotel entrance, I noticed a beautiful outdoor dance floor and a bar in the garden, where many elegantly dressed people were gathered. I walked straight from the car to the bar, where a woman immediately started talking to me, and we went dancing.
After a few steps, I realised she was a complete beginner in tango — but that was fine. Thanks to everything I’d learned in the La Pantera Group Course, Module 1, I was able to dance several songs nicely with her.
She then introduced me to her mother, who also asked me to dance — and she, too, was a beginner. Just as I thought it was a bit unusual to bring one’s mother to a milonga, or to attend a milonga as a complete beginner, another woman tapped the mother on the shoulder and said, “I dance tango and would love to dance with him.”
So we switched partners, and she turned out to be a good tango dancer. The music was rather unusual for a milonga, but I assumed it was Tango Nuevo. While we danced, I noticed another woman on the dance floor — wearing a wedding dress!
Suddenly I realised I was at the wrong event and had accidentally crashed someone’s wedding! I explained it to the woman I was dancing with, and after she finished laughing, she invited me to stay and meet her friends.
It turned out to be a fun evening — made possible in large part thanks to the skills I learned in the La Pantera Group Course, Module 1. So, thank you to La Pantera for teaching me that!
Best wishes,
Philip
